David Teacher, an educator and advocate for technology in the classroom, said, "We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teachers' hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world."
My students are 3rd and 4th accelerated graders.
We are a part of a wonderful magnet school that, unfortunately, does not have a lot of resources. They love being a part of a challenging program and I want to make sure they all stay can stay on the accelerated path. In order for my students to keep up with their peers in other schools, they need more exposure to technology. Many of my students have computers or tablets at home, but they have little practice in using them for anything other than games. They need to learn that technology is not a toy, it is a tool.
My Project
My students will use the tablets during their math and reading centers. They will use programs that have activities related to the Common Core State Standards. They will also use the tablets to do research for writing assessments. Not only will my students be strengthening their literacy and mathematics skills, they will also become more familiar with using online programs. This is essential because more and more standardized tests are now computer-based.
These tablets will be a powerful resource for our classroom.
Not only will these tablets provide more options for centers activities for my students, they will also provide students will access to the internet whenever they need it.
