My Students
"When will I ever use this?" This is a question I get asked on a daily basis. Many of my students struggle to see the need for math in their lives (outside of the basics, like money and time). Every day I am challenged and work so hard to make those connections for my students.
Our school has wonderful students, yet many of them didn't find success until they found us.
Our teachers care and work so hard to build relationships with each and every student. What we notice is a prevailing trend is that many of our students cannot see what lies outside our little town. They don't see the opportunities and possibilities that are out there. Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate high school! You can imagine how scary college seems! Having this technology at our fingertips, so accessible and portable, will open their eyes to what lies outside our four walls, their home, our town.
My Project
The portability of a tablet will bring technology to those who otherwise have such limited access. It will allow us to access applications that bring the math to them! The tablet will help those who are gaining confidence participate in ways they otherwise would have been too scared to try. Technology engages students, whether they want to or not! Tablets provide opportunities to bring math to life through the various applications we could access. Tutorials are available to aid students who are on the cusp of "getting it", but need to see the concept in a different way.
I wish I could provide my students with everything they need to be successful.
I can share the knowledge, inspire curiosity, and foster confidence. However, I cannot create the technology they so crave and need. Your generosity will fill this "hole". Also, your generosity will inspire my students to continue the cycle of giving.
