This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students live in homes that are technology deserts. The only internet accessible technology they have is a cell phone. Although wonderful, cell phones are not what the students need to access live learning and all learning material necessary to be successful. Recently my school district announced that we would continue with distance and virtual learning as needed due to the current situation with the pandemic. A recent survey from the district shows that 52% of students need technology devices for school work. In my class alone from the 2019-2020 school year, 9 of my 20 students needed to borrow some type of technology from school to access and turn in work. For many of my students and families, its a choice, food and necessities or the latest computer.
My Project
These tablets will be distributed to students that have outdated or no access to technology for distance learning. Once they get these new tablets students will be able to quickly access online assignments, attend class meetings, communicate directly with teacher, small group sessions for small group assistance or individual assistance. The best thing is that if even one of my students can be served by this technology then it will free up some of the schools portable technology so it can be distributed to other students or families in need.
