My students need an iPad as a vehicle to capture and edit videos. Using an iPad to introduce video editing will allow students to become familiar with the app iMovie.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom is anything but typical. This year, we have taken a strengths-based approach to learning, and my students have discovered different talents within themselves. As a group, we are beginning to appreciate others for their strengths, and find new ways to showcase our own.
My scholars are 33 energetic sixth grade GATE students.
They are a group that has been together since second grade, and are about to embark on a new journey into middle school. They are a passionate, kind, and resilient bunch that perseveres even through difficult situations. They are eager to learn, and have recently found their own voice in an effort to speak up against social injustices. This year, they have strengthened their technological abilities, and are learning to integrate new components of media into presentations and projects. My school has started and arts program that teaches students dance, signing, art, computer programing, and various musical instruments both throughout the day and after school. While the students are excited to learn the new programing elements, they are held back due to the fact that they don't have the necessary tools to take their progress to the next level.
My Project
This technology will assist my students to experience first-hand historical accounts of social upheavals in the past marked by intolerances toward others. They will conduct research on the iPads to study how attitudes of intolerance were transformed into acceptance. Additionally, students will examine the lives of people from diverse cultures because that which one knows, one no longer fears. I am proposing to use iPad technology to teach my students to film, edit, and publish public service announcements to air throughout our campus in an effort to improve acceptance and understanding. They will learn how to trim, edit, and embed media from the past to show how we can learn from history. The sixth grade scholars in my classroom will work cohesively, to educate their peers about social injustices and how everyone can take a stand to actively pursue acceptance. With this project, acceptance will be gained and trust established to bring our ideal school community to fruition.
Using the built-in camera, we will shoot video footage of our own and embed multimedia from integral figures throughout history.
Lessons on the major changes regarding equality will be brought to life for the students through virtual timelines and multimedia. This can be used by students to analyze how major events in history would have been different when reflecting on the statement, "If I were there..." This will improve my classroom by helping to develop students who practice acceptance.
