This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in or around East Harlem, New York. They are strong, vibrant, resilient young adults that are doing their best to navigate their disabilities during this global pandemic.
While growing up with learning disabilities is a challenge in itself, COVID-19 and remote learning have complicated things for my student population to levels that are beyond frustration.
Many of our families have been impacted by COVID-19 in ways that have severely complicated their lives. Some touchscreen tablets would really help our students and their families.
My Project
I am requesting five Fire touchscreen tablets which will help meet the management needs of my students with disabilities when building literacy and writing skills.
It is easy to sometimes forget that students with disabilities need to work twice as hard as their general education peers to reach their academic and socio emotional goals.
Many students with disabilities have specific management needs that include opportunities for kinesthetic and tactile learning opportunities, alternate modes of presentation and response. A traditional laptop makes that challenging to offer.
A touchscreen tablet will open up doors for students to complete learning activities such as dragging and dropping their response, drawing responses, and artistic creations. It will also remove the barrier that a traditional mouse or trackpad creates when students write or navigate websites or programs.
