My students need tablets, with screen protectors, and cases to be able to collect and analyze large amounts of data while actively carrying out scientific experiments.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Some of my favorite days in my classroom are when we start a new unit. Kids walk into class to music blaring and they have to figure how the music is tied to what we are about to learn. This really helps to get them energized to the idea of learning something new.
The demographics of my school show that there are a great deal of kids here that are socioeconomically disadvantaged with a very diverse background.
What I see are bright minds that walk into my classroom eager to make something out of themselves. They deserve the chance to learn with the same advantages of any other student in this country. This school is bustling with motivated teachers and students who are doing and will continue to do amazing things. From extracurricular, to athletics, to ROTC, to science, and the arts this school sending out kids who are going to change the world.
My Project
At the moment students have to share data by writing it on the board for everyone to copy down and work with. With a tablet per group students will be able to actively collect data while still working and all groups will be able to record data in a shared document real time. This will allow students to collect large amounts of data to analyze that wasn't feasible before. One of the standards for the AP Exam is to be able to analyze large amounts of data. These tablets will allow them to meet this standard and hopefully get them closer earning college credit by passing their AP exams.
I teach the best kids.
They are taking science electives in hopes of earning college credit through AP exams. So often these kids are stretched very thin. They are trying to do and achieve so much that sometimes they just wanna know how to make an A and get on to the next task. My goal is to make my class relevant, fun, and engaging to convert these students from task masters to life long learners!
