Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fresh out of kindergarten, my future 1st graders are eager and ready for 1st grade! Many entered Kindergarten without any pre-school experience and learned so much in only one year!

All 32 of my student's are English Language Learners where most of them are first generation in this country.

Our school is located on the southwest side of Chicago where there is a high poverty level and high crime area. Many of the students' families work two jobs and send there children to our school with the expectation of us, their teachers, providing them with a safe, nurturing, engaging, learning environment.

My Project

Imagine walking into a classroom where 32 students are in small groups gathered around a table observing diagrams of life cycles of butterflies. Or where those same 32 students are gathered at tables sharing their crayons and glue sticks with each other in creating the next masterpiece! My English language learner's will be practicing their English, conversing with one another over what they are learning in school.

Tables instead of desks, encourages student's to share and collaborate with one another.

Tables will help the student's stay more organized and have more space to explore around their classroom. I am planning on raising and lowering some tables to incorporate flexible seating.
