Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from the Southeast side of Chicago and many are from immigrant families. Almost 90% are low-income. My school is a PreK-8 building comprising around 850 students total. The demographics are 95% Latino, 3% African American and 2% White. All of our families are hard-working, blue collar and proud.

Even though they might not have much, our parents push their children to work hard and make a better life for themselves.

They want their kids to grow and succeed.

My Project

My students need these tables to write, discuss, work and collaborate with their classroom peers. Students with special needs will be able to sit right next to their general-ed peers.

We teach tolerance and social justice throughout our curriculum with a variety of texts and these tables will help us pursue that goal.

Overall, these tables will help us have rich student-led discussions because they will have the opportunity to participate more fully at their table as opposed to a classroom desk or other space. These tables will also help to foster and build classroom community through their continued use.
