Tables For Teamwork!

My students need tables to perform project based learning. Collaborative learning promotes development of higher-level thinking, oral communication, self-management, and leadership skills. Promotion of student-faculty interaction, as well as, Increase in student retention, self-esteem, and responsibility.

My Students

My students come from an urban area and are mostly raised in single parent homes. Many of the students that I service are of low income families and receive support from the government for their basic necessities. Statistics show that some children that are brought up in this type of environment struggle later on in life due to lack of experiences in the world around them.

I can see in my students eyes that they would like a chance to explore the world and see new things.

However, I understand that their families just can not physically show them the world for multiple reasons. I am a teacher that hopes to give them a fair chance of seeing new things so that they have a chance of growing up and going to college and not allowing finances to deter them from being the best they can be. They deserve a place where they can learn and also call home. My goal is to make my room feel more like a place they are eager to come to everyday.

My Project

Setting up tables rather than desk will make the learning space more "homelike". With students coming from low income/broken home settings they are not eager to learn.

I believe that by creating a space where we feel more like a family would promote interest in learning.

Tables promote more collaborative based learning which ensures the students equal responsibility and teamwork to complete task.

Working in groups rather than alone will make the weaker students feel less lost. I would also be able to group the students according to their work ethic so that the higher students could assist the lower functioning ones.
