My Project

In my 5th and 6th grade math classes, students thrive when they have opportunities to work together—sharing strategies, solving problems, and supporting one another. However, our current setup with individual desks makes meaningful collaboration difficult. Students are constantly rearranging desks to work in groups, which leads to distractions and lost learning time.

I teach in a historically underfunded district where classroom resources are limited, and teachers often stretch every supply.

Despite these challenges, my students are curious, creative, and eager to learn. They deserve a space that reflects the collaboration and critical thinking we strive for each day. This project will help transform our classroom by replacing desks with shared tables that support teamwork and communication.

These tables and dry erase circle will create a space where students can collaborate more naturally, discuss their thinking, and engage more deeply in math tasks. They will also help foster essential 21st-century skills like problem-solving, cooperation, and active listening.

I’ve seen how much more engaged and confident students are when they feel connected to one another and comfortable in their space. With your support, we can create a classroom that nurtures not only strong mathematicians, but also thoughtful teammates, leaders, and lifelong learners.
