Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an English as a Second Language teacher and Literacy Coach at a Title I school with almost 70% English language learners. We work in the oldest elementary school in the city and our classroom needs some love and functionality. I share a classroom with 3 teachers and we want to make our environment safe, clean and inviting to our students. We need a table, chairs and rug to support our students' learning and as a meeting space for teachers during common planning time.
My students are from all over the world - Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Burma, Malaysia, Mexico, Africa, the Dominican Republic, Pakistan, and Nepal.
My students are refugees and immigrants who are learning English and love to come to school! They deserve a space that supports their learning and allows them to collaborate and grow. Teachers need a space to meet and develop skills with colleagues.
My Project
We need a table and chairs for our children to work and play. We don't have a workspace where friends can collaborate and complete their school work. Students will use this space to complete assignments and teachers will use this table when we have a professional development or common planning time.
The rug will be used to beautify the space and will also support multisensory learning of the alphabet.
Children can move to a letter when the teacher produces the sound or ask a child to identify a letter name by standing on the correct grapheme.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
