This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Attention seekers! My first graders with learning disabilities thrive when given one-on-one instruction. In my classroom currently, I meet with small reading and math groups on the floor or in the hallway!

My first grade students attend a large elementary school in the Bronx, NY.

many of them are English Language Learners and most of my class is students with learning disabilities. They are bright and curious and eager to learn. Most of them are struggling readers and require a lot of attention and motivation to unlock meaning in written language. I want to bring them a space where they feel safe and successful in their own abilities!

My Project

This table is not just another piece of furniture to crowd my classroom, but rather will become an integral part of my daily instruction. After kneeling on tile floors, sitting crisscross on carpets, and teaching in noisy hallways I am anxious to create a more sacred learning space in my classroom. Students deserve an education that meets their individual needs and this table allows 6-7 students to receive personalized instruction at the same time. I work in a classroom with a co-teacher and a paraprofessional, so this table will be used every day, all day.

The impact of this table will be evident in my daily lesson plans and student growth data.
