Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students belong to a universal transitional kindergarten program in which students begin school at four years of age. Because many of them have never been in school before, they are eager to participate in classroom activities and learning centers. Because there is no budget for furniture, my young students are forced to use centers on 1st grade tables and chairs. Having an adjustable round table that is age appropriate will make my students more comfortable and more engaged in their learning activities.
Living in an inner-city infested with crime and poverty is a reality my students face on a daily basis.
They attend an urban public elementary school in which all of its students participate in a federally funded free-lunch program. Many of my students are second language learners and many have parents with no or very limited English language skills. They are from low economic backgrounds, but are hard-working, inquisitive learners. My students are captivated by hands-on learning activities. They enjoy participating in class discussions. The adjustable round table I am requesting will provide comfort, facilitate conversations, and keep students engaged in their work. An adjustable round table can facilitate learning and ultimately, create an age appropriate environment where young students can thrive.
