My Students
I work with special education students, and they incredibly determined and tenacious folks. Many of our special education students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with minimal support outside of the school building. The families we work with work multiple jobs, and they do the best to provide for their children. About 60 % of our special education students are identified as having a Specific Learning Disability. Close to 35% percent of our have an Other Health Impairment, mainly being ADHD. The remaining students are identified as Developmentally Delayed and Autistic. Our students are all uniquely ambitious to achieve, but they sincerely need the resources to support and enrich their learning.
My Project
Students in the special education program at our school have dynamic backgrounds with external situations that impede their learning. Students within the special education program are plagued by their deficits in developing cognitive abilities and acquiring new knowledge. My students in particular need to continue improving their behavior, communication and relationships within their environment. Above all, my students need to continue enjoying school, for some of them are forced to treat school as a refuge from their current conditions. These students more than ever need to feel inspired and excited by the learning process. With your donations, I will have the financial abilities to continue exciting these children, forging a literate, auspicious group that will one day be the leaders and significant contributors in our communities!
By donating to our project, you are giving us an opportunity to use applications and online programs, rooted in peer-reviewed research and data, with our students, allowing us to fashion a course of study uniquely tailored in providing beneficial support through technology that continues to sculpt the learning process for these different cognitive, sensorial or fine-motor mobility impairments.
This use of technology directly addresses students' IEP goals as well as provides a teaching modality that appeals to multiple intelligences. Given the latest in technological advancement, there is no doubt that the interactions my students will have with updated technology will allow for emboldening and significant enhancement in literacy achievement, particularly through the use of programs like iSPIRE. Furthermore, the technology housed within the iPad allows for students to use the device in a myriad of ways, such as a white board, flash card review, visual support/aid, etc. (reducing distractions). There is no way my students will not feel supported by this technology implementation provided by all of your compassionate, gracious and hospitable donations!
