Since we started back high school in August, our students have been consistently practicing, studying, and contemplating the much-anticipated upcoming competitions at the regional, district, local, and national levels!
We have a lot to celebrate as we now have an arsenal of trophies from numerous chess tournaments, both in the team and individual categories!
My students have performed better than chess teams that have been competing for five or more years. The chess program has grown tremendously, and most excitingly, our students will be once again competing at the North Regionals qualifying championships in late January!
The only challenge is that we need chess t-shirts for this upcoming tournament and other chess community events coming up.
I am requesting funding to have 9 chess t-shirts for students who will be competing in January.
Playing chess relaxes my students and gives them a sense of commitment, and accomplishment, not to mention good sportsmanship, patience, and other social-emotional developing attributes. Through chess, I have observed my students grow consistently into critical thinkers daily.
