Symmetry STEAM

Help me give my students paint, brushes and cardstock to create symmetrical greeting cards.

My Project

We just finished our annual symmetry lesson, and I have run out of materials! Our class used wet tempera paint on a half sheet of cardstock. The students then folded the paper to see the symmetrical transfer of paint. We used a choice of pink, white and red cardstock and hung them on display in the hall. Just before Valentine's Day, each student will take the paper and turn it into a card for someone special.

Please help me keep this symmetry lesson going as a tradition.

Older students enjoy passing by the painted pieces and reminisce about when they painted a symmetrical card.

The geomirrors will give me the opportunity to add another cool lesson to our geometry unit and add a symmetrical art feature; bringing the A (Art) into this original STEM lesson. The symmetry activity books will enhance my activity centers. Students can enjoy the challenge of drawing symmetrical lines to create complete pictures.
