Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some students spend more time in school than they do their own home. I do everything I can to ensure that my students are in a safe and inviting environment that makes them both happy and engaged. In order to accomplish this, I would like to provide each student with a new chair.

I have the privilege of teaching 48 fifth graders reading and language arts.

They are strong willed and filled with personality. They are bursting with curiosity and the will to become stronger individuals everyday. My students attend a high poverty school with Title I services. English language learners make up half of our student population. What our school lacks in resources, we make up for in determination to succeed.

My Project

In my original project I requested six swivel chairs for my guided reading table. Every chair in my classroom is cracked, wobbly, broken, or too small for many of my students to use. My goal was to provide my students with a safer, more comfortable place to sit during small group instruction, so that they would be attentive and get more out of the lessons. My students were the ones who came up with the idea. A generous donor fulfilled our project at the beginning of the school year. Since then I have purchased additional swivel chairs and have a rotating schedule for the chairs everyday. These chairs have proven to be an effective tool in my classroom. The students are not complaining about their chairs, they can easy change the height of the chair to fit their needs, and they move seamlessly throughout my classroom. My students have gone beyond my expectations in terms of being responsible with the chairs. The chairs have also helped my students who struggle to sit still.

My students asked me for new chairs and through the kindness of a stranger we received six new ones.

By donating to this project, every student in my class will be able to have his own swivel chair. My students have shown that they are responsible when sitting in them and moving about the classroom. They have also been more focused and our transition time has decreased greatly. Your donation will make learning a more enjoyable experience for all my students instead of just a handful at a time.
