Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love my students because they come to school with an eagerness to learn and grow. Their desire to gain as much as possible during the school day is seen as soon as they line up and get ready to enter our classroom. Last year, coming back from the pandemic was tough! Most of my students went through 2-5 substitutes due to the scarcity of teachers. I am striving to make this year as consistent as possible. It is my mission to fill in as many learning gaps as possible! Small group instruction as well as standard based driven centers can have a significant data driven impact on academic growth. One Center will be devoted to phonemic awareness where they can use stamping letters, cut outs and journals to explore what has been taught in the earlier lessons. Another center will be about building book reading stamina. In this center the mats, cushions, and other forms of flexible seating will make it much more enjoyable to study parts of a book and good reading habits. The center with blocks will also have pretend play manipulatives to facilitate speaking through story telling. Centers will change according to lessons and themes being taught throughout the year.

When resources are engaging and intentional the idea of running centers is possible and opens up the ability of conducting small group instruction.

The different modalities and materials are especially needed when I only have my teacher assistant for 1 hour a day. It is also intended to bring not only their belief in themselves up, but also motivate the family to see that so much is possible when you have everyone on board. I know they will succeed when so much is there to keep them get ready.
