My Project
I’m excited to launch a hands on Engineering and STEM project that helps students understand real world applications of structural design, material science, and ergonomics. I am requesting two egg hanging swing chairs to serve as both learning tools and engineering case studies within our STEM curriculum.
These chairs will allow students to explore key engineering concepts such as load distribution, structural integrity, center of gravity, and material performance.
We will analyze the design of the egg chair from the curved frame that evenly distributes weight to the use of weather resistant wicker and cushioning materials that ensure both stability and comfort. Students will then brainstorm improvements, sketch redesigns, and simulate their own chair concepts based on principles of civil and mechanical engineering.
In our STEM labs, the chairs will double as testing spaces for student prototypes, where groups can gather, reflect, and iterate during the engineering design process. The unique structure also inspires inquiry into biomechanics and user centered design.
This project will give students a tangible, interactive way to engage with engineering beyond the textbook. With your support my students will swing into a new level of STEM learning, where comfort meets creativity and design drives discovery.
