This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are Middle School students in a low poverty area that come from Spanish speaking families. We are constantly trying to raise their morale, reading, and writing capabilities. We practice a number of strategies, like we have our students practice reading out-loud and in groups.

Our swim team currently has approximately 40 students with equipment for about 17.

Most of our students really enjoy swimming, because its different than the norm (which is soccer) and they want to discover the competitive level of this fun, and healthy sport. Since swimming is not big here, most students lack the basic supplies to learn the sport.

My Project

The supplies that I am requesting for my student athletes is some of the most basic equipment needed in order to successfully compete in competitive swimming. This year we had a great turn out for students that are interested in swimming. The problem is that we do not have enough equipment for all students participating. We are short with the most basic of things, like goggles and swim caps.

Every year we have approximately 20 students sign up, which is usually a good number, this year we had close to 40 students sign up.

We encourage students to join a team sport in school so they can get exercise, learn all about teamwork, and grow up healthy. Swimming is a great recreational activity for people of all ages, it provides the health benefits of a vigorous workout. This is why kids and adults of all ages enjoy jumping in the pool.
