Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As I welcome my incoming students this year, one area I want to focus on more than ever is behavior. For many students, especially those who may not always receive recognition in traditional ways, it’s important that they have a chance to shine. This year, I’m introducing SWAG Tags as a way to celebrate positive behaviors and achievements in the classroom, big and small.
The goal of this system is simple: I want every student to feel excited about earning praise, whether it’s for helping a friend, answering a question, or improving their reading level.
By using SWAG Tags, students have the opportunity to be recognized for their unique contributions and progress, even if they’re not the ones usually standing in the spotlight.
Each student will receive a dog tag chain where they can hang their earned SWAG Tags. These tags will be a visible reminder of their hard work, and they’ll be able to wear them proudly on Fridays, showing off their achievements to classmates, teachers, and parents alike. This gives them something tangible to celebrate and take home to their families, whether it’s from school conferences, events, or just a casual moment at home.
To ensure the tags last throughout the year, I will laminate each one, making them durable and resistant to wear and tear. I’ve also set up a pocket chart to hold the tags in the classroom.
In addition to the SWAG Tags, I’ll be offering extra incentives in the form of a prize box. Students will earn entries into the prize box for various achievements like participating in games, acing pop quizzes, or improving their scores. This adds an extra layer of excitement and motivation for students to engage in learning and practice positive behaviors.
