This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As part of our interdisciplinary unit "Happy Healthy Me", we learn about the importance or exercise, getting rest and eating right to be fit. To go deeper, we want to grow our own healthy edible garden!
Last year we cultivated edible plants in soil.
After learning about the life cycle of plants, we grew a variety of lettuces. Students were captivated throughout the entire process. We featured our work in a science fair, and then we ate the salad we made from our harvest.
We are excited for our next experiment, growing lettuce and strawberries hydroponically! After our science fair, we will invite our families to a harvest festival where they can learn how to do the same thing at home.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
