My Students
"Sit still" "Focus" - these are requests many of my students receive on a frequent basis. In today's technologically advanced world, middle school students are used to texting, Facebook, and online interactive games. Sitting still for even a short period of time in a classroom can be a challenge.
My kind, hardworking, and imaginative students attend public school in an urban setting.
We have dedicated parents, creative teachers, and a supportive administration. Unfortunately, we do not have unlimited financial means to fill our school with every resource our diverse student body needs to be successful.
My Project
I am requesting a pair of "Evolution Chairs." These chairs are comprised of a large rubber stability ball set on a heavy duty plastic base with wheels, perfect for teens and young adults. By allowing independent and slight movement by the occupant, the dynamic of active sitting is created. The simple task of bouncing gently or rolling in small circles allows many students to expend enough energy that they can concentrate on academic tasks.
These chairs will allow students to sit in a general education classroom and receive instruction with their peers while expending energy in an age appropriate way. Both "Evolution Chairs" will be circulated around my classroom, for use by both special education and general education students.
