This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am passionate about inspiring my students to love reading while helping them develop a deeper understanding of history. My students are curious, eager learners, and I want to provide them with books that are both engaging and educational.

One of the best ways to bring history to life is through stories.

That’s why I’m asking for your support to help me bring the "I Survived" book series by Lauren Tarshis to my classroom. This series has captivated young readers with its exciting, fast-paced narratives that introduce children to important historical events, such as the Titanic disaster, the attacks on 9/11, and the eruption of Mount St. Helens. The characters in these books face real challenges, giving students a unique perspective on history through the eyes of those who survived these events.

The books will not only help my students understand history in a more personal and emotional way, but they’ll also improve their reading skills, build empathy, and spark meaningful discussions about resilience and courage.

I am requesting a set of the "I Survived" book series, which includes a range of titles covering key historical events. These books will serve as both individual reading material and a class resource for group discussions, reading comprehension activities, and projects.

I truly believe that when students are excited about what they’re reading, they are more likely to develop a lifelong love of learning. The "I Survived" series will help my students build both their reading skills and their understanding of historical events in an enjoyable and meaningful way.
