Survive to Thrive: Engineering, Physics, Humanities, Art Integrated Film Project
We need cameras, boom mics, and other filming supplies to create an amazing environmental dystopian film that will be played in theatres!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
High Tech High Chula Vista is an equity project. Teachers work to address inequities and help students reach their full potential. Our schools are intentionally diverse and integrated, enrolling students through a zip code-based lottery aimed at creating schools that are reflective of the communities we serve. Teachers recognize the value of having students from different backgrounds working together, and employ a variety of approaches to accommodate diverse learners without academic tracking. High Tech High has an acute focus on college entrance and college completion for all students.
Our students are creative and innovate and get to unleash their passions in the form of projects! School projects integrate hands and minds and incorporate inquiry across multiple disciplines, leading to the creation of meaningful and beautiful work. Students engage in work that matters to them, to their teachers, and to the world outside of school. Students connect their studies to the world through fieldwork, community service, internships, and consultation with outside experts. Our facilities are collaborative workplaces with small-group learning and project areas, relevant technology, and common spaces where artwork, prototypes, and other artifacts of student thinking are created and displayed.
Students will get to take on the roles of professional filmmakers by creating a dystopian film about people who survive a collapse and then begin to create a new world in which they thrive! Students will create a theory of collapse using historical evidence from societies that have collapsed. In physics and engineering, students will solve real world problems by studying sustainable systems and actually building sustainable machines as props that we could use to survive. In art and humanities students will write, film, produce, build props, make costumes, and direct the film. By working in groups, students will be empowered to take on leadership roles as cooperative, compassionate, and perseverance members of a team. The cameras, mics, booms, and recorders we are requesting are necessary tools to help the students create their film. The solar controller will be used to create solar powered
machines that will be featured in the film as sustainable methods of living.
In Their Own Words
We are going to look at ways in which the world is not being sustainable and figure out through research how it could be more sustainable. We are going to research societies that have collapsed due to environmental issues in the past and we are going to make a film that tells that story and shows how we can be better as a world.
We get to take on the roles of cinematographer, writer, editor, actor, historian, engineer, and more. We get to act as professionals and we need to produce professional quality work. We are held accountable by our group and we need to work together in order to succeed. We will all have a chance to be leaders and get feedback on how we are doing.
This project is important because it will allow us to do more than talk about the environmental problems we are facing as a society. It will allow us to create a film that sends a message about how we could make our world more sustainable. It will be fun to watch and help the audience connect to characters, but also send a deep message about how we can improve our sustainability.
