My Project
My students are Middle to High School age, enrolled in a specialized, out of district placement. Most of the students are diagnosed with learning and emotional disabilities, which make it difficult for them to achieve academically and socially in a general academic setting.
In donating to my classroom the iPad Pro, I will be able to offer my students a center activity as an alternative to traditional studies of measuring the Earth.
It will allow them to work in groups to geocache. They can use Google Earth to view maps in terms of interactive mapping.
In addition, I want to introduce them to Augmented Reality (AR) such as Jigspace. This will allow the students to view and manipulate models of the Earth's layers, tectonic plates and more. Another AR app is Expeditions Pro. This app will offer virtual tours of Earth related locations such as volcanos, caves and rainforests This will bring them closer to reality.
Being able to offer them this opportunity will engage them and allow them to feel in control of their learning.
