Surfing Into Second Grade

My students need sensory balls to help them stay focused, a timer to time themselves while working on a task and a science library for hands-on fun and learning.

My Students

Sitting still is overrated. So many students have various learning styles and in our classroom we help each student learn by their learning style. Some students work on bouncy balls and others work on the floor. Do you remember being able to do experiments in science and learn with hands-on?

I work in a co-teaching classroom and we have students with autism.

All 19 of our students are so bright and such a loving and happy bunch. Each student is so smart in their own and really shines in their own subjects. Our school is a 7 year school and we share our building with two other schools. Although we have resources we also lack many materials that can be used to our benefit in the classroom to help not only our students on the spectrum but ALL our students succeed. We're here to build a better future not only for our children but for our country as well. In order for us to do this we need all the proper materials to help us succeed.

My Project

My students need sensory balls to help them stay focused, a timer to time themselves while working on a task and a science library for hands-on fun and learning. Students will be using the materials by timing themselves when they need to complete a certain task. It helps them regulate their behavior to finish on time. Students will be able to walk over to the science center and engage in hands-on learning with partners and discover more about the world around them. Students will be able to hang their charts that they make as a group during group projects with the chart stand rings and they will be able to store their supplies in the magnetic storage boxes. All of these materials will really help our students succeed especially sensory balls when some students need it to help them stay focused on the rug.

This project will improve my classroom because it will help all my students succeed because it taps into all of my students learning styles and interests.

Not only will these materials help my students succeed but it will also be shared among the other two second grade classrooms as well.
