My Students
"Are you ready, Tigers?" is how I greet my reading and writing students every day. They always answer with a resounding "Yes!" as they enter my class.
My school has a high number of students who are ESOL, ELL and there are a few who are SPED and gifted.
Even though we have to cater to and adapt to such a wide range of learning needs, we know that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology (and teachers who care). As their reading teacher, one of my main objectives is to facilitate the students I serve using the most up-to-date technology while improving and enhancing their reading experiences.
My Project
In my fourth-grade classes, there are students who have various special needs as well as multiple learning styles. Also, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have virtual as well as face-to-face students, otherwise termed as dual-modality, which has its challenges in itself. Because of the learning challenges they face, especially as it relates to technology and learning with technology, we have to find ways to accommodate each child. Issues that relate to learning styles sometimes require that these students use touch screen computers as they would grasp concepts and retain knowledge longer and easier.
We were just recently able to assess each child's individual needs and the one underlying factor was the need for most of them to use a touchscreen device to learn and stay engaged.
Our tactile learners can learn by touching the laptop screen and the touchscreen option allows both teacher and students to run programs with the tap of their fingers. This makes it not only easy to navigate for the teacher, but for the students as well.
We are requesting one touchscreen Surface Pro tablet that is portable and easily shared among students. Your support for this project would ensure that our fifth-graders are learning in a dynamic and engaging environment, using technology.
