My fifth grade classroom is located in the East Village, a lively and diverse neighborhood in downtown Manhattan. As per our mission statement, our school is dedicated to providing "an environment where all children and all families are valued, welcomed, cared for and supported." Our core values are inclusion, kindness, self awareness, social action and joy of learning.I have not yet met my new classroom of students, but I can't wait to build a caring community of support and hard work with them!
My Project
I am requesting an assortment of different materials that all serve a singular purpose: to support individual students' learning needs in my classroom.
The noise-cancelling headphones will be very helpful for my students who need more quiet to focus while they work independently.
These tools will also assist these students in being advocates for their learning needs. Rather than coming to me when they're having trouble focusing, students will be able to take a pair of headphones for themselves instead.
The timer will provide a visual aid to the class, and will allow students to more independently monitor their time management. The fidgit ball will assist students in calming down after being asked to take a break from the class. Finally, the comfy cushion chair will provide a comfortable environment for students to read and work independently.
