Supportive Seating Supports Learning

Help me give my students who struggle with attention/focus and sensory processing difficulties a better variety of alternative seating options to help them focus on learning.

My Project

I am an occupational therapist primarily supporting students with special needs in their classrooms. The schools I work in have primarily lower income families and the needs of our students are very high. Our schools have experienced significant increases in social-emotional and behavioral difficulties with students post-pandemic. All of our students need supports in these areas. I work primarily with students in special education, but I am also a resource to all of the students and teachers in the general education classrooms.

I love being able to provide supports for students' physical and social-emotional needs.

Alternative seating and weighted/compression items can be very effective in assisting a child with attention and focus for learning. This project will provide much needed alternative seating options that we can trial with students to determine the efficacy before investing in a specific tool for each specific student.
