Supporting Thinking At Our Elementary School in Hawaii

Help me give my students the materials they need in Math and Science. We are building thinking classrooms and constructing knowledge. We are creating classrooms that encourage collaboration and teamwork.

My Project

Our Elementary School in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a small school nestled in Pauoa Valley. Our teachers are working hard to create classrooms that provide opportunities for students to think not mimic, to own their learning not sit and wait for someone to tell them what to do, and to be problem solvers.

Teachers are creating classrooms that encourage student thinking, collaboration, and the construction of their own knowledge in Math and Science.

For example, our Kindergarteners and 1st graders will use the dice to build math fluency; our 4th and 5th graders will use the Pattern blocks to build their geometry sense. Whiteboards will be used for whole class participation. All the items requested are essential to the Math and Science classrooms that our teachers want to create for their students.
