My name is Abigail Carroll. I have a class of nineteen kindergarteners ranging from five to six years of age. My group of students is a lovely class who take pride in their learning and development as little children. Additionally, I take pride in teaching a general ed. inclusion classroom. This means that my class comprises general education students mixed with students with IEPS who need extra support.
COVID-19 has not drastically affected my kindergarteners, as they were not in school at the height of the pandemic.
However, because of the pandemic, my students did not receive the social and emotional learning that would have been received in daycares, preschools, and other settings. The requested resources will help my students advance their overall well-being in light of COVID-19 because they will allow them to mediate their social and emotional needs as little children.
A lot of focus is put on academics, and sometimes children miss out on the social and emotional needs that help them as they grow up and eventually become adults. With your help, the items will support my students in managing their emotions, learning how to cope with big feelings, and feeling more comfortable in the classroom. Most of these items include big feelings notebooks that my students will use to draw and write pictures about their emotions when big feelings occur.
I hope to be the adult that helps these children realize that their feelings matter and that they have resources available to them in the classroom. Thank you.
