This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am joining a new school this year and I'm looking forward to being a part of my new school's family. We are a school located in a neighborhood in Northern Philadelphia. Our school has begun the process of rebuilding itself, as we are in what is known as a Turnaround Network. This is when the school starts from scratch with almost an entirely new staff.
As we work together to rebuild our school, I want to rebuild my Kindergarten classroom.
I want to create a strong and nurturing environment for my students to flourish both academically and socially. I plan on turning my classroom into a safe home for my kiddos by transforming our room from a typical class with desks and chairs. We will have fully flexible seating to address all of my learners' needs.
My goal this year is to increase the supplies I have to help address the academic needs of my scholars. We have a high bilingual population so I want to make sure that my classroom has the necessary tools to help support these first-time learners. Please help our scholars meet their greatest potential!
My Project
Our scholars need book bins and bulletin board paper. Having a place to organize and store their reading materials will give my learners access quality literature.
Bulletin board paper will allow students to proudly display growth and their achievements and book bins will support students by giving them a chance to take leadership in their own education.
These bins will allow me to give each child a bin to level their books to ensure that my students are reading books that are a good fit for them. The bins will also give them the opportunity to monitor their own growth and find the best strategies to help them read. Students will be able to easily see and view all reading material and make selections for themselves based on what titles interest them within their appropriate levels. Organizing our books for more easy student access will help get books into the hands of our students all day long.
