Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a first-grade teacher of English Language Learners. My students come from different cultural and educational backgrounds. They all bring into the classroom their rich, cultural experiences.
In my bilingual class, I have to teach and ensure that all my students learn all subjects, including reading, writing, math, and science.
My students are at-risk and come from high poverty. Therefore, due to their limitations, my students are in need of additional resources in order to be able to learn and succeed.
My Project
This school year that all students have returned back to the classroom we are in need of many essential items. During the day, my students must constantly wash their hands. Therefore they constantly need soap.
It is necessary to have these items for them during this pandemic.
The way we communicate and teach in the classroom has also changed. It is important for my students to hear me while I’m teaching. I have to wear a mask and it makes it difficult for my students to clearly hear me. I know that with a voice amplifier my students will understand everything that I say. In the classroom, we have a SmartBoard where my students can see stories and assignments. My students will benefit from having a substitute document camera. It will mirror the papers that I’m using for the lesson into the SmartBoard.
In this project, I’m also requesting a book that would benefit my students to see that everyone should celebrate their own race.
