Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We believe that a child's ability to learn is deeply connected to their emotional and mental well-being. As the school social worker, I work with students daily who face challenges such as trauma, anxiety, social isolation, and family instability. This project will fund critical resources to create a calming, supportive space and provide students with tools to manage their emotions, build social skills, and thrive academically and emotionally. To better serve our students, I am seeking funding weighted lap pads, fidget tools, sensory bottles. We'd like Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Books and Games: age-appropriate books about managing emotions, empathy, and friendship; conversation card decks; cooperative board games. We need journals, emotion cards, stress balls, breathing tools
An iPad will access digital SEL tools, track data securely, conduct virtual check-ins with students, and use engaging therapy apps.
A printer is needed to print customized SEL worksheets, behavior plans, family resources, emotion charts, and visuals for in-class support
Many of our students come from low-income households and face daily stressors that impact their ability to focus and succeed in school. For some, school is the safest and most structured part of their day. This project will help create a dedicated space where students can take a moment to self-regulate, engage in therapeutic activities, and build resilience.
As the only full-time social worker in the building, I strive to provide both one-on-one and group interventions. Having access to these resources will elevate the quality of care I can provide and ensure students are not only heard, but also empowered.
This project will directly impact over five hundred students who receive regular or as needed social-emotional support. It will also benefit teachers and families.
