My Project
Many of my students come to school facing challenges that extend far beyond the classroom. As a predominantly Black and Hispanic student population, they navigate systemic barriers, financial hardships, and the daily stressors that can make learning difficult. Despite these obstacles, they show up, eager to learn and succeed. However, some basic needs—like access to period products and snacks—are often unmet, impacting their confidence, comfort, and ability to focus.
This project aims to provide students with essential period products, ensuring they never have to miss class due to lack of access.
No student should feel embarrassed or have to leave school because they don’t have what they need. By normalizing the availability of these products, we create a supportive and empowering environment where students can focus on their education rather than their discomfort.
Additionally, snacks like hot chips will serve as an incentive for students to attend extended-day programs, where they can get extra academic support. Many of my students stay after school, but hunger can be a distraction. Providing snacks shows them that their well-being matters and helps keep them engaged.
This project is about more than just supplies—it’s about dignity, equity, and creating a school environment where all students feel valued and supported.
