My Project
Although the COVID-19 Pandemic is largely behind us, the effects of the pandemic are still visible in classrooms across the country. This is my 17th year teaching middle school and despite the passage of time, I can still see the impact it has had academically and socially and emotionally for my students.
Every year brings me a new batch of students with new ideas, habits, and challenges.
Despite the differences from year to year, some things remain constant: the need for social and emotional learning, the need to support students at a variety of levels, and the need to provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum for students.
These items will help my students in a variety of ways, from fulfilling their basic needs or helping them understand the major themes of a reading unit. The boxes of pencils will ensure I will always have a pencil to offer my students. Fruit snacks and fun erasers will serve as incentives for my students throughout the year. I received several wobble stools last year and I hope to get more since they help some students focus better in class while moving.
Lastly, I am requesting a replenishment set of one of our class novels "I Am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai. This is part of an integral unit in my class. Through this unit, my students not only learn about a teenage changemaker, but they learn how young people like themselves can be advocates for positive change just like Malala. They then have to find a way to do something that will impact the world in a positive way.
