Supporting Social-Emotional Learning For Overall Wellness
My students need the Feelings and Emotions Washable Dolls, Families Book Set and Feelings and Emotion Paperback Library to help them identify their own emotions and be sensitive to the emotions of others.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My preschool students are children who are three to five years of age. My school is in sunny California where children come to school each morning ready to learn and grow! There's never a dull moment in our class. My students are busy bees moving from one interest area to another. They're eager to learn, explore, engage and experiment with the instructional materials and centers I set up for them. My students need instructional materials to engage with and foster their interest in technology, literacy, math, science, art, and engineering. They also, need instructional materials to support their social and emotional learning, to help them grow into well rounded individuals. Every single one of my students deserves a fair chance at having his or her potential nurtured and fully developed. My little ones have an insatiable curiosity, that's why it's important for me to have a class with a variety of instructional materials to meet their educational needs.
My Project
My students need the Feelings and Emotions Paperback Library to help them recognize a variety of emotions and acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions. By engaging with these books my students will learn to feel and show empathy for others, maintain positive relationships and make responsible choices. The Feelings and Emotions Washable Dolls will support my students understanding of identifying facial cues of emotions in others and responding to those emotions in a caring and empathetic way. Furthermore, the book Two Homes will support my students to adjust to having separated or divorced parents by showing them how to embrace the changes of having to live in two different homes in a loving and positive way. The Families Book Set will enlighten my students in the various families settings that exist today and the important role each family member plays withing each family. By becoming aware of their own family setting and relating to other's family settings, my students will develop a sense of pride and belonging. These materials will foster my students overall wellness, self confidence, high self esteem and a healthy emotional outlook on life.
