My students love reading! They come to the campus library excited to listen and participate while I read to them. Their eagerness to engage by asking questions or thinking about what's going to happen next makes for great conversation. As their school librarian, I want to share these relatable picture books and get their creative juices and critical thinking skills flowing. Author Molly Pearson describes picture books as "big ideas in small packages".
SEL helps students to learn about themselves and others by gaining awareness of and managing their emotions.
Research from CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) shows that social emotional learning positively impacts academic performance, supportive relationships, mental wellness, and more.
Having multiple copies of these books available for students to check out and share at home will help my students to become more confident readers and community partners.
