This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a self-contained special education teacher in a title I Pre-K-8 school in the Bronx. I teach a bridge class consisting of grades 1 and 2 within the same classroom. The students in my class are energetic, curious, and enjoy learning. There are various disabilities within the classroom such as ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Emotionally Disabled, and Speech-Language delays.

Each student comes to school with their own beliefs, unique challenges, and struggles but always willing to engage in learning.

My Project

Since students will be unable to share materials due to COVID it is important that all students with disabilities are able to access individual materials to support in their learning. Providing students with individual pencil boxes to hold items such as pencils, crayons, and learning materials like fraction strips gives them the tools needed to be prepared to learn.

During these uncertain and difficult times, setting up my students with disabilities for success is an important aspect of keeping students engaged and providing a sense of normalcy in their lives.

This project can give my students access to bring these materials home and or work remotely or within the classroom alongside our curriculum.
