My Project
Every year teacher appreciation rolls around and students want to celebrate the hard work of the teachers that have helped them grow academically.
Alaska has a teacher shortage problem.
There are not enough teachers for the number of students that we have. One classroom has seen three teachers leave in a single year. We have had multiple special education I want the other classroom teachers to feel appreciation in hopes that it will remind them why they teach.
We will talk about why there is a need for teachers and what we can do to make the entire school feel the appreciation. The fifth graders will go to the other classes to speak out about the impact their teacher has and have them contribute in helping to create a project to help them feel supported.
I would like to have my students directly go and help lower grade levels create art masterpieces for us to hang in the building. The goal would be to have the older kids fifth graders go to the other classrooms asking the students to write down adjectives that describe their teacher on the clipboard. The students would then grab a piece of colored paper and the charcoals to create a paper with their teachers name and adjectives describing them. My fifth graders could assist with spelling when necessary.
After we visited all the classes the fifth graders would hang onto the artwork. We would then tape finished products around the school as a way to spread cheer.
