My Students

Have you ever meet some incredible children and you can't believe that they are only 6 and 7? I think about this every day. My first grade students are such an incredibly diverse group that come together to form our community.

My students are part of our school community that is very special.

My students come from various neighborhoods in San Francisco to attend our school. We are a small school, with small class sizes to match! While our school might be small, our learning takes us far.

My Project

First grade is a heavy year for a math student. We work on foundational skills to sophisticated number sense and counting strategies. Each day to support my students in growing their math brains, we have a math talk, a math lesson, as well as math stations. Math stations are where a lot of differentiation is occurring, meaning students are working on targeted skills based on their needs. My students will use these math station materials to engage in daily math practice independently or with their partner. These stations will help them practice important early number sense skills that are essential to becoming independent math thinkers. They will rotate these stations every day so they have the chance to try each one within a week of independent practice. These centers target skills that are important to develop throughout first grade so they will be relevant throughout the year and get plenty of use! With these materials, my students will practice counting, addition, subtraction, telling time, and identifying and classifying shapes.

Donating to this project will allow for my students to grow their math brain as independent scholars.

Your donation will provide the materials needed for my students to engage in rigorous math content by way of games.
