My Project

My students are resilient, strong, flexible, kind, amazing - I could go on forever! I teach fourth grade students that are all impacted by the military life. Their families devote themselves to our country and safety. They move every few years and bring with them a wealth of knowledge, experience and adaptability.

As other students in the country and world, they have been affected by the COVID19 pandemic resulting in a mixture of distance learning, hybrid learning, and working hard to fill in gaps from the last couple years.

My students are working so hard to catch up on academics they have missed, while also learning to be back in a classroom with other kids. Their social emotional development is just as important as the academics. These books will help students to learn about famous people, learn about biographies, and work on their reading, writing, and presenting skills. We will be reading about Kamehameha the Great to learn about Hawaiian history. Extra books will allow students to dive in deeper. In previous years, we have had to share just a few books. These books will allow students to work in partners, reread, and think deeply about the content. Art supplies will help us to experience the full curriculum and express ourselves. Materials like stools and stickers will allow us to work in small groups. All these materials will help my students feel welcome and cared for in the school environment.
