Help me give my students with intellectual disabilities access to sensory materials that support their focus, emotional regulation, and learning in a calm, safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
My students are some of the most incredible humans I’ve ever met. Many of them are nonverbal, but they speak volumes through their smiles, their determination, and the small victories they work so hard for every single day. They have big hearts, bright minds, and so much potential—but they also have unique sensory needs that can make everyday classroom life overwhelming.
Sensory materials aren't just "extras" for them; they are essential to my students' learning.
They help regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and give students ways to engage with the world around them. Sensory materials in the space can mean the difference between a student shutting down or finding peace enough to learn and participate. For our nonverbal students, sensory tools can help them communicate, feel safe, and stay connected to their learning in powerful ways.
Unfortunately, these tools are rarely provided by schools, even though they make such a huge impact. That’s why I’m asking for your support. These materials will help create a classroom where every student—verbal or nonverbal—can feel calm, focused, and seen.
Thank you for helping me build a space where my students can truly thrive.
