My Project
Many kids struggle with behavior in school. That is where positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) come in. PBIS is proactive approach schools use to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. Our goal is that all students behave in a positive, safe, respectful, and responsible manner. Ideally, students would always behave this way and not need extrinsic rewards. However, don't we all love being complimented on the things we do positively and celebrating our successes? Extrinsic rewards are highly motivating to elementary school students who may not have yet learned the skills needed for intrinsic motivators.
According to research, PBIS leads to better student behavior.
When schools use PBIS, students get fewer detentions and suspensions. There’s also some evidence that PBIS may lead to less bullying.
Teachers and staff members award points for good behavior, which students can use to buy prizes from the PBIS store. However, because our school's funding and donations are limited, and we don't have a lot of resources to supply the store with incentives for the kids. Getting this would be extremely beneficial to our students in continuing to reward positive behavior in our school. The Pokemon cards, squishy toys, dolls, stuffed animals, slime, and other fidget toys will be added to the PBIS cart for students to earn. A donation to this project will help keep our students engaged and reinforce positive behaviors.
