My Students
Our classroom is filled with 26 diverse students who each contribute uniquely to the classroom environment. The school they attend is the smallest in our district in a rural part of Oregon.
Almost all of my students in our Title 1 school, do not have access to books or learning materials outside of our classroom.
Despite their economic and personal hardships, these students come to school ready to learn and full of enthusiasm. For these students, school is a warm, safe, and caring environment and I strive each day to nurture the classroom community we have built within our classroom and foster a love for learning in each student.
My Project
My students especially need books that promote a positive mindset and showcase examples of strong and capable female leads such as Keena Ford, Ivy & Bean, and Katie Kazoo. These books will continue to enrich our classroom community of acceptance and promote a positive mindset.
Surrounding my students with books that give them the opportunity to see themselves and their classmates in the characters of these books will foster deeper connections.
By hearing and reading books that feature positive role models and builds character education through relatable situations, my students will continue to demonstrate acceptance of themselves, as well as others. A classroom library that reflects diversity empowers all students within it.
I am so excited to share these books with my second graders and instill a lifetime love of reading within each one. I can not express my gratitude enough for your generous support.
