This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve Gifted and Talented students in a highly diverse, low-income district. The students come from many different backgrounds and a majority of our students speak a second language. Our students come from supportive families who want the best for their kids, but often do not have the resources they need to assist them. These students are focused and excited to learn.

Gifted students are tomorrow's leaders, inventors, problem-solvers and creators!

Providing them with opportunities to think critically and collaborate is essential for their success while providing them more opportunities to be more college and career ready!

My Project

Our gifted classroom has become a "Pop-Up Shop" at our school. This current school year, students studied chemical reactions, artistic resin creations, creation of a business plan and the marketing of their resin creations. Now they have the fever and are brainstorming all types of innovative ways to transform our curriculum into an artistic/economics based classroom store. Our 3D printing students have designed customized products to add to the store, our STEM students are investigating how to make our own silicon molds that the 3D printing students will "stamp" their designs into, and our Resin Art business class will then utilize those molds to add more products to our storefront. It really is becoming an "all hands on deck!" and we are excited about the integration and ideas of all our classes adding to the business plan.

Unfortunately, several of our classroom 3D printers died this year after many years of service and cannot be repaired.

This is a huge blow to every aspect of our classroom store and therefore we are asking for four replacement 3D printers. 3D printing is a huge part of our classroom (it is not uncommon to have 10 students working to print their creations at the same time) and we have students who are literally able to design and make any object that solves a problem. Our classroom garden needed a lid, so they measured and created one. Our STEM drawers needed organization, so they measured and created drawer separators... there really isn't any challenge too great for my students... they just now lack the 3D printers which will help to take their storefront and marketing plans one step further. They are also excited about adding in Cricut designed products to their store. Students will investigate vinyl transfers, spin art, and jewelry design.
