My students need more masking tape for all of their prototyping and project work (we always seem to run out!). They also need a better sound system in the classroom and headphones for the computer lab.
My students are curious, energetic and active learners who are interested in understanding and impacting the complex world around them. They enjoy technology and art as much as they enjoy socializing and playing with one another. They see today's problems as opportunities to change the world for the better.
REALM is a Title I Charter school serving students and families from Berkeley, Oakland and Richmond, CA.
Our community includes a large percentage of English Language Learners and students with special needs. My goal is to provide access to today's leading technologies and learning methods in order to meet students where they are and help them overcome the challenges that they face. Every child in my classroom desires to succeed, and I want to help them find a way toward success while they are here at REALM.
My Project
With your help, over 100 students will have more materials to work with in class, a better classroom experience and be able to improve their research for projects while in the computer lab.
The REALM Makerspace is a place for students to follow their interests, learn about how the world works, and create/test their ideas.
The masking tape will help us to engage in more design challenges and allow us to prototype more without fear of running out of the essential binding element needed to bring our ideas to life. The new speaker system will create a better learning environment in the classroom, making it easier for everyone in class to access shared media. The class set of headphones will meet a big need in the computer lab. Currently, we don't have headphones, making it very difficult for students to engage in independent research/study because the computer lab can become too loud and distracting when everyone is watching a video or listening to sound. With these new headphones, the environment will be changed dramatically, allowing students to better concentrate and focus on their project research free of external distractions.
