This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so excited for the new school year to start! I love getting a new group of kindergarteners, curious, excited about starting school, eager to learn new things. My classroom is filled with books, manipulatives, art supplies, dramatic play items, and most importantly, inquisitive young minds.

Almost all of my students are English Language Learners.

The majority receive free and reduced lunch. The families of my students are very kind and supportive and want to help their children succeed in school however they can. Many students did not attend preschool, making this year their first school experience. They are so excited to finally be "big kids" and to start learning!

My Project

My students need an easel so that they can see and participate in the fun activities we do! We read a lot of big books in kindergarten to learn concepts of print, letter recognition, comprehension, and vocabulary. On an easel we can play with magnetic letters to learn letter names and sounds and combine letters into words. It can hold chart paper so we can create charts and posters for reading, writing, science, math, and social studies. We can participate in shared writing and reading. An easel presents whatever we are examining in a manner that is easy for the students to see and to reach.

A sturdy easel will be able to be used for many years to help make my whole group instruction more effective.

We spend a lot of time sitting on the rug engaging in learning activities. The students will be able to see and participate in these activities with an easel that is the right size and structure.
