This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 2nd grade students are some of the most resilient and brave youth I have met. They face some hardships in their daily lives that no child should have to face. Many are low income and many are dual language learners. I also have a large proportion that are English language learners, sometimes entering mid year with no knowledge of the language. The variety of my students makes teaching them both a challenge and one of the most rewarding experiences.

My Project

This project is focused on expanding access to different learning modalities to all of my students. As dual language learners, it is important for my students to be able to hear the language as much as possible. As covid challenges put us on the brink of virtual or hybrid instruction, I find it important that my students have a way to record themselves speaking while at home and to be able to listen to their recordings in order to improve their foreign language acquisition. This will help as they also risk not having classmates to speak with to practice at recess.

This project also has manipulatives for us to use in our classroom.

My students come from homes where tactile learning is often not available to reinforce in class instruction. Exposing my students to different forms of learning in the classroom will increase their ability for success. In addition, these materials better prepares our classroom for personalized learning for each of my students.
